As a homeowner that possesses a balcony on the outside, you’re probably going to want to customise and personalise as much as you can.

As you sit or stand in this area of your home, you’re going to want to look and feel as pretty as possible. There’s something poetic and classy about owning a home with a balcony.

A Juliet balcony, in particular, holds a lot of significance due to where the name was derived from all those years ago. If you have one of these in your home, then you’re going to want to decorate it to the best of your ability to ensure you enjoy it and make it look like the most beautiful addition, here are a few fabulous ways to decorate it:

Create A Lovely Seating Area

The Juliet balcony in your home is supposed to provide a lot of luxury. You won’t just be standing and leaning up against it when you look out of it. So, why not place down a few comfy chairs and pretty tables? You could create a small reading area or a sitting area for you and others to frequent in. You might even want to place down a desk and use this area as a study.

Add Plants

You can spice pretty much everything up with plants and other kinds of greenery. Plants obviously thrive on light and will benefit from being placed by the balcony. Potted plants would provide a handsome look, but you could also opt for vines and similar vegetation running up and around the window space on the outside too.

Paint The Window Frames To Match Or Go With The Balcony

In order to really make the balcony pop, you should focus on the colours of the windows and the balcony itself. Colour psychology is huge and really should be considered. When everything is lit up in the evenings, for instance, the contrasting colours of the frame and the balcony can make the entire area look beautiful. A firmly and expertly painted surround can make everything shine.

Make your Juliet balcony the Centre Of Attention

Don’t just use it as an added extra in the home. If the Juliet balcony is bang in the centre of the room, then it’s going to be the most noticeable feature in the room. The same applies when looking at the home from the outside. Ensure you have the balcony in the centre if you have only one. If you have two, make sure you place them evenly and symmetrically by each other.

If you are looking for different ways to enhance your home, one thing you should consider is a Juliet Balcony.

This is a barrier or guarding that is situated on the exterior of full-height French doors, which are installed on the first floor or higher, which do not lead to a balcony.

There are a number of different benefits that are associated with having a Juliet Balcony installed in your home, including the following:

Increase the amount of light that floods into your home

This is one of the major benefits that is associated with having an infinity glass Juliet Balcony installed. This will enable you to let a large quantity of light into your home, without the safety of your business or home being compromised in the process. If you want to create a home that is bright and airy, a Juliet balcony is a worthy addition. You can also open up the space when the warm weather appears and enjoy incredible views from the comfort of your own property.

Increase the levels of safety in your home

Not only can you increase the amount of light that is able to flood into your home, but you will also be able to enhance the safety and security that your home is able to provide as well. This is especially important if you have pets or small children within your home, as large doors or windows could easily present a security risk. Instead, if you decide to get a Juliet balcony installed, you are going to be able to open your windows and doors during the summer months without having to fret about the risk of a potential accident.

Increase the beauty of your home

A final factor to consider is that an infinity glass Juliet balcony can help you to boost the aesthetic appeal of your home. There are plenty of different styles and types of Juliet balconies available each of which offers a unique look that can enhance the beauty and feel of your home.

Steel is the material that is most commonly used, offering an aesthetically pleasing and strong addition to your property. Whether you have an old period home or you have a more modern and contemporary property, you can use a Juliet balcony to add heaps of beauty to your home. Not only will this make your property a pleasure to be in, but it also means that you can improve the value of your home in the process as well its curb appeal.

Call in the experts

Heat soaked glass Juliet Sunrock Balconies

Toughened glass is the best material for constructing infinity glass balustrades and Juliet balconies.

However, if inferior glass has been used, some customers experience problems with breakages after installation, occurring months or even years later.

Heat soaked glass offers another great solution to the range of toughened glass used for glass balustrading to ensure it will look its best for years to come. Read on to find out all about heat soaked glass, how it’s made, and its benefits.

What is heat soaked glass?

The majority of toughened glass contains small amounts of Nickel Sulphide, which changes state during the toughening process and cannot revert to their original form when the glass is cooled. Although steps are taken to remove the Nickel Sulphide inclusions, no glass manufacturer can guarantee that they are not present.

In most cases, this isn’t too much of a problem, but sometimes, the Nickel Sulphide eventually returns to its original form and expands in size as it does so. This can lead to cracks and breakages in glass sometimes several months or years later.

Heat soaked glass solves that issue. The toughened glass will be placed in an oven at 295-300 degrees and left for 4 hours. If there are any Nickel Sulphide inclusions, they will expand during this process and cause a breakage. However, if the glass does not break, it indicates it’s safe to use and it’s very unlikely to break at a later date.

What is the benefit of heat soaked glass?

The obvious benefit of heat soaked glass is that it reduces the risk of breakages in the future. In fact, it is estimated that the heat soaking process removes up to 98% of all glass with Nickel Sulphide inclusions, so the chance of breakage is minimal.

Sunrock Balconies are now offering heat soaked glass for Juliet balconies. We can create outdoor living rooms using heat soaked infinity glass as an option designed to your specifications. We also offer a complete end to end service from design to quotation to full installation for both residential and commercial customers. We can also consult with your architect, contractors or tradesmen to get the best results for your balcony project.

We are dedicated to providing the highest quality infinity glass balustrades and Juliet balconies to our customers and having heat soaked glass for Juliet balconies as an option is just one way of demonstrating this.

A balcony is a balcony is a balcony… Or at least that’s what many assume.

But the truth is that there are lots of different kinds of balconies to fulfil a range of functions, beautifying your living space and allowing you to enjoy more outdoor space in your home where garden space is limited. A balcony is a wonderful place to grow flowers, herbs or even vegetables. You can lounge in your balcony while you watch the sun go down, or just enjoy your morning coffee al fresco. And when you’ve chosen the perfect kind of balcony for your home it can add aesthetic appeal and value. Let’s take a closer look at the different kinds of balcony structures…

Stacked balconies

The most common and popular balcony structure, it’s easy to implement while also having fewer structural load implications for the property. Indeed, stack balconies are technically separate structures. And on some occasions, they don’t even share a structural connection to the building itself. Balconies are stacked on top of one another over separate floors.

Balconies are conjoined by pillars which support the weight and transfer it to the ground. Concrete pads are usually cast below the balconies to better stabilise the structure.

Cantilevered balconies

Cantilevered balconies are very aesthetically appealing as they appear to defy the laws of physics. They protrude from the surface of the wall with no visible means of support. They can be made from timber, concrete or steel. These are more complicated and need to be planned further in advance than other kinds of structures. Unlike other balcony structures, they tend to have a very slight “bounce” underfoot. They typically have a maximum depth of 1500-1800mm. The lower the depth, the less movement users can expect underfoot.

Hung balconies

Hung balconies use stainless steel cables which bear some of the weight. These attach to a plate at the edge of the balcony which connects to the supporting wall via the cables at a 45 degree angle. The fixing at the wall makes the most of the available bolt strength with equal parts “shear” and “pull out” forces. While these balconies are less common, they have a distinctive look and great stability.

Faux / Juliet balconies

In researching a balcony for your home or business, you may hear the words “true” and “faux” balconies used. All of the above are considered “true” balconies. A “faux” balcony is one that has railings but no actual flooring. You’ll be able to enjoy the fresh air, but you won’t have an actual space to move out onto. These are also known as Juliet balconies in homage to Romeo’s famous wooing of Juliet on her balcony in Verona.

Mezzanine balconies

Unlike the other entries on this list, mezzanine balconies are actually installed within your home. They usually consist of a large deck area with railings. They’re a great way to make the most of your vertical space and lend more usable space to your home.

If you’re a homeowner, then it’s important that you’re making the most of all the space that your property provides.

While most people take plenty of care when it comes to the inside of their homes, many overlook the exterior area of the house. But it’s well worth taking the time to upgrade this outdoor space. It’ll allow you to enjoy being outdoors with your loved ones, and can also nudge the value of your property in the right direction.

In this blog, we’re going to take a look at some tried and tested methods for bringing your garden up to speed. Take our tips on board, and it won’t be long before you’re enjoying all that having a picture-perfect outdoor space can bring.

Juliet balcony

Want to improve the appearance of your home and let in as much light in as possible? Then consider adding a Juliet balcony to your property. These are especially recommended for master bedrooms since they let in so much light. On warm spring and summer mornings, you’ll be able to open your doors wide and let in that cool breeze. An infinity glass Juliet balcony isn’t a traditional balcony; it’s more an architectural feature that effectively transforms the room into one large balcony. It’ll allow you to enjoy the feeling of being outside, even when you’re in your bedroom.

Rooftop Terrace

Sunrock Balconies Infinity Glass top fix

When the sun is shining, you’ll want to make the most of being in the outdoors. There’s just nothing better than spending many hours under a warm sun, right on your own property. There’s sometimes just one issue: your garden won’t receive sunshine all day, because at some point your home or your neighbours’ home will block the sun. There’s one handy, awesome way to get around this issue, however, and that’s to add a rooftop terrace to your home. This will effectively give you two outdoor living spaces at your property: your back garden and your roof. Rooftop terraces are perfect for more or less all types of relaxed days outdoors, but they’re especially great for lounging and enjoying BBQs with your loved ones.

Upgrade balustrades

Sunrock Balconies Infinity Blok Balcony

If you already have a balcony, but it’s looking a little dated, then consider upgrading to infinity glass balustrades. This will instantly give your home a sleek and modern appearance. This frameless feature will let in plenty of light into your balcony since there’s nothing blocking the light; there’ll be no shadows. If you have a home with a view, then you’ll get to look out at it in all its glory. There are aspects to enjoy while you’re sitting out there on your balcony, but you’ll also enjoy the view of your home from the street too. They look fantastic.

If you’re ready to create the ultimate outdoor space in your home, then be sure to get in touch with Sunrock Balconies. We offer a wide range of services and have the expertise and experience you need to make your grand plans for your home a reality.

Glass is one of the most common materials used for the production of items we use every day. Our pre-historic ancestors used naturally formed glass from volcanic lava which had rapidly solidified without crystallisation for weapons or tools. This type of glass was of great value and was very much sought after.

Archaeological evidence of the first manufacturing of glass has been found in Ancient Egypt dating back to 1500BC. However, glass from these times was produced by glazing pre-made items or beads that had accidentally formed from metalwork. It was in the Bronze Age that the first signs of glassmaking as we know it became apparent where molten glass was poured into containers.

It wasn’t until the 1st century BC that glass blowing was first used by Syrian and Palestinian workers. This changed the whole industry enabling easy production at lower costs. The Romans spread the technique across their empire, and it became commonplace not only for the production of jewellery and containers but for architectural purposes.

How is glass made today?

Glass is made from sand. Sand contains soda ash, lime and silica, which when heated, becomes liquid. We’re talking temperatures of at least 1700°C or 3090°F!

Once it’s reached this temperature it completely transforms so it will never return to its original state and even when cooled it never quite solidifies. Scientists call this type of liquid an ‘amorphous solid’. So, as incredible as is sounds, it has the characteristics of a solid and a liquid!

Why is glass so versatile?

Glass is relatively inexpensive to produce. Because it’s transparent it can be used for a variety of purposes in and around our homes and workplaces. It is commonplace within the architecture of buildings adding interest, natural light and character.

It has a resistance to heat once it is set and it is ‘chemically inert’ – in other words it’s unreactive to materials or food products place on it or in it, so it is great for storage of food for instance.

Coloured, opaque, etched, moulded or cut, glass is exceptionally adaptable but equally, can be easily recycled or upcycled.

What is Laminated Glass?

Sunrock Balconies use laminated glass for balustrades. Laminated glass has a plastic interlay placed between two sheets of glass during production. This creates a tight bond so if the laminated glass does get damaged it will remain intact because the fragments are bound on the thin film of interlay. Therefore, it doesn’t shatter into tiny pieces and reduces the risk of injury.

Laminated glass provides greater UV resistance and sound proofing compared to standard glass so it’s great for external balcony balustrading and internal glass walls.

So, we’ve established that glass is exceptionally versatile and practical. That’s exactly why Sunrock uses it for infinity glass balustrades because they match these qualities. Fabulous design features, adding interest and luxury they will add style and sophistication to your home or outside space.

All are designed to your specifications making sure that Sunrock balustrading helps to change your lifestyle and create a feeling of space from within as well as more living space outside. We guarantee everything will be compliant with UK building regulations.

This week is all about love. Along with all the Valentine gifts and cards exchanged, it’s a foregone conclusion that the famous meeting of Shakespeare’s star-crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet at Juliet’s balcony will be quoted. But, the term ‘Juliet balcony’ will also be used in the context of home improvements and we’re certain you will fall in love with them too!

What is a Juliet Balcony?

In a nutshell it’s a shallow balcony or railing which is secured to the external wall and sits just outside a window, pair of French doors or bi-fold doors on an upper storey of a building. When you open the doors wide, the balcony provides a safety barrier to the outside allowing you to enjoy the interior space whilst at the same time allowing the outside in.

Let the light flood in with a Juliet Balcony

Traditional Juliet balconies were made from steel, usually painted black, with upright bars. Installed on the wall outside, it would work as a barrier but have a cage like feeling from both within the room and externally too.

Today, the addition of a Sunrock Infinity Glass Juliet Balcony works well with the trend for open plan living. Whilst this type of balcony does not extend the floor space of a property, it can help change how you use the space. With the replacement of small windows with larger French doors or bifold doors, the room is automatically flooded with light making it feel larger and more pleasant. The air floods in when the doors are opened and you achieve a safe unobstructed view due to the glass balustrade of the Juliet Balcony. Essentially it converts the room into an enclosed balcony, fantastic for warm and sunny days.

Are Juliet Balconies Cost effective?

A Sunrock Infinity Glass Juliet balcony will add a stunning design feature to your property and delivers an elegant solution to fully comply with UK Building Regulations. They are becoming a popular feature on old and new UK properties. The key reason for this is that can usually be installed without the need for planning permission which also negates the need for an architect. It should be pointed out though that all Sunrock Balconies are built to fully comply with Building Regulations.

Other options to a Juliet Balcony

Of course, Juliet balconies may not suit every property. If you have the space and budget, Sunrock would be pleased to look at alternatives such as full balcony with its additional benefits.

We offer lots of options in both full and Juliet balconies, so why not take a look at them here. Let Sunrock Balconies make the difference you are looking for – add style, function and appeal to your home and bring the outside into your home today. Get in touch. We’d be happy to answer any questions or discuss a project you have in mind.

The use of glass has established itself as a key element of contemporary architecture of buildings.  As a result of new technology and innovation, sustainable products can be produced using glass. It’s these qualities that make it an attractive material to use in construction as well as it’s practicality.

Glass offers the open living that people want today. Being transparent, it offers a two way view giving a sense of space where living and outside areas become one divided only by glass. It is also a more stable and resistant building material which is easy to clean and maintain. Here at Sunrock, we use glass for balustrades and balconies to improve and enhance the style, function and appeal of homes and commercial buildings.

Letting more light into the area below your balcony is another way to create openness too. Glass floors with glass wells integral to the balcony decking is one option, while the other is an entire glass floor made from laminated toughed glass. All glass floors are available in a variety of shades; clear, tinted or privacy etched and all have spot grip pads added as a safety feature.
