In many homes, the staircase is the first thing visitors notice when they enter the front door.

However, despite being a prominent feature, most homeowners neglect the staircase aside from the standard dusting and vacuum.

Staircases are one of the key communal areas of any property with significant and constant use. So, if that’s the case, why not look to create a stunning feature of it? Not only will it be more appealing it will add value, along with a luxurious modern look, adding a wow factor in your home! Here’s how you can do it:

Experiment with Colour

By experimenting with paint, you can personalise your stairs and bring about a wonderful transformation. You may decide to paint the entire staircase or focus on select parts like the spindles. For a professional looking finish, you should ensure that all the surfaces are clean before painting. Have the old paint and varnish removed before the application of the new decoration.

You can create space and light by using different paint, textures, colours, and shades. Using contrasting shades for the treads and the risers such as a lighter colour on the riser and a darker colour on the tread will create a great look.

Be Creative with Carpeting

Attractive carpets can work wonders for a tired staircase. Carpeting may be the ideal option for staircases made from MDF, plywood, or concrete. Available in a wide range of colours, designs and textures it means you can be creative!

To add more style, if your staircase is still in good condition, you could carpet the centre of the stairs and paint or vanish the visible areas of the tread.

Use Lighting

You can give your stairs a new look by installing lighting. Illuminating the staircase will not just create the necessary light, but it will also bring out a stunning effect. You can choose from various staircase lighting options:

  • Linear step lights
  • Illuminated handrails
  • Tread lights
  • Backlighting
  • Up-down lights
  • Hidden lights

Install Infinity Glass Balustrades

Transform your staircase by installing infinity glass balustrades. In commercial and domestic settings, glass balustrades add a touch of class and luxury to any staircase. They allow light to flow freely and create an illusion of space. Infinity glass is easy to clean, making it easy to work with.

The design of balustrades should be such that it discourages children from climbing on it. Some conventional staircases, especially those with wooden railings, do not comply with this requirement. A great solution to this is infinity glass balustrades. They not only add a modern twist but are also sturdy and safe. Any balustrade installed by Sunrock Balconies are designed, built and installed to pass UK Building Control regulations.

Heat soaked glass Juliet Sunrock Balconies

Toughened glass is the best material for constructing infinity glass balustrades and Juliet balconies.

However, if inferior glass has been used, some customers experience problems with breakages after installation, occurring months or even years later.

Heat soaked glass offers another great solution to the range of toughened glass used for glass balustrading to ensure it will look its best for years to come. Read on to find out all about heat soaked glass, how it’s made, and its benefits.

What is heat soaked glass?

The majority of toughened glass contains small amounts of Nickel Sulphide, which changes state during the toughening process and cannot revert to their original form when the glass is cooled. Although steps are taken to remove the Nickel Sulphide inclusions, no glass manufacturer can guarantee that they are not present.

In most cases, this isn’t too much of a problem, but sometimes, the Nickel Sulphide eventually returns to its original form and expands in size as it does so. This can lead to cracks and breakages in glass sometimes several months or years later.

Heat soaked glass solves that issue. The toughened glass will be placed in an oven at 295-300 degrees and left for 4 hours. If there are any Nickel Sulphide inclusions, they will expand during this process and cause a breakage. However, if the glass does not break, it indicates it’s safe to use and it’s very unlikely to break at a later date.

What is the benefit of heat soaked glass?

The obvious benefit of heat soaked glass is that it reduces the risk of breakages in the future. In fact, it is estimated that the heat soaking process removes up to 98% of all glass with Nickel Sulphide inclusions, so the chance of breakage is minimal.
